Tema: Jingle bells Artista: André Rieu
Y hoy es el dia antes de Navidad. Y eso no puede menos que recordarnos el poema que, tal vez, se identifica más cabalmente con lo que hoy llamamos Navidad. El poema fue considerado anónimo durante mucho tiempo, hasta que en 1837 Clement Clarke Moore se lo adjudicó. Muchos lo llaman “las palabras escritas por un americano más conocidas en el mundo” por encima del Gettisburg Address y el “Ich bein ein berliner”
El poema en sí ayudó a definir que Saint Niklaus traía regalos, que su trineo lo tiraban renos llamados Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid y la pareja más importante “Donner und Blitzen”. Que quiere decir “rayos y truenos” en alemán, recordar que el 50% de la cultura americana era alemana. Rufolph the red nosed reindeer apareció mucho después.
Ahí está todo lo que define a Santa. Por supuesto excepto el color rojo. Eso se agregó después. Y no, no fue Coca Cola. Cuando la Iglesia Católica decide reconocer a Santa Claus, lo identifica con San Nicolás de Myra que era obispo. Y los obispos tradicionalmente se visten de rojo y blanco simbolizando la sangre de Jesús y la pureza de la Iglesia. Coca se subió al tema porque le cerraban los colores. Igualmente Coca popularizó la imagen del Santa vestido de rojo y blanco que hizo olvidar al Saint Nick vestido de pieles del poema.

When what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny rein-deer,
With a little old driver so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment he must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So up to the housetop the coursers they flew
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too--
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a pedler just opening his pack.
His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow;
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face and a little round belly
That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Aquellos que nos sentimos parte de la familia de la Johan Strauss Orquestra de André Rieu, estamos muy tristes por el fallecimiento en plena gira de Ruud Merx. Uno de los artistas originales de la orquesta, era trombonista, cantante y una parte importante del histrionismo de cada show. Su participación en cada interpretación del Vals N°2 de Shostakovich es inolvidable y lo extrañaremos mucho.
Se nos fue muy joven, solo 47 años, dejando a su esposa Alina, que es violinista en la JSO también desde sus inicios. Sufrió un paro cardíaco en Leeds (UK) y lo trasladaron a Maastrich (donde vivía) donde nos dejó para ir a esa gran orquesta en el cielo. Ahora el vals N°2 va a ser perfecto para el Jefazo.
Una vez escuché a un artista que no recuerdo decir “Ya que todos nos vamos a morir, yo quiero morirme de gira”. André y su orquesta suspendieron toda su gira por UK, los recitales de Navidad ya estaban grabados.
